Conclusion
This research work examined the economic impact of the Okpekpe Road Race on Etsakoland. It interrogated the role of sport as a means of fostering economic development, socio-cultural development and general well-being in Etsakoland. This research work is significant because it has filled the gap which for a long time have yearned for attention. There is virtually little or no academic work on the historical origin of Etsako people, on the role of the road race to the development of Etsako land as well as the impact of the road race on the host community. While a great number of scholars have engaged themselves in the history of the Great Benin kingdom, little attention has been paid to the history of the Etsako people. Also, the fact that Okpekpe Road Race is a new phenomenon which only began in 2013 and the fact that sports in this part of the world is not taken beyond recreational activity account for the lack of academic work in that endeavor.
