ABSTRACT
This project work is to design and construct a 1KVA inverter with battery protection, overcharge protection and a USB port terminal to charge mobile phones.
This design is achieved by the use of discreet components such as resistors, capacitors, zener diodes, mosfet, transformers, voltage regulators, 555 timers, operational amplifier, opto-couplers, a deep cycle battery, IC(SG3524), thyristor and relays. Six mosfets was used increased the power carrying capacity of the circuit. When there is power supply from the power grid, power of 230 volts is supplied to the inverter circuit, this power is converted to 12 volts and it is used to charge the battery through a battery charging circuit, while simultaneously supplying power to the appliances connected to the inverter circuit directly from the power grid, when there is power failure, a relay switch the source of power to the battery, with the help of the mosfets and the IC(SG3524) the dc power from the battery is converted to ac power which is then used to power the appliances connected to the inverter circuit.
The design was tested and found to be satisfactory. The circuit was constructed and tested with a 50watts AC stand fan and it works satisfactorily.
