ABSTRACT
This study examined Osofisan's use of language to achieve comic effect theory through the demonstration characters in Midnight Hotel. It analysed the following such as the graphological, phonological, semantic and syntactic structures used to ridicule the Political, Social, Religious, Moral decadence among people in the society as the comic nature of the play does not betray its satiric quality. The methodological approach utilised in this study is the qualitative method because it helped unveil the feelings, perceptions and attitudes that Osofisan have towards the issue as well as how to curb them. The study discovered that Osofisan challenged the status quo which have hindered the country's growth through the use of language and character development. The play also made an effort to assess and remark on the scope and trends of corruption in the nation. Hence, the aim of pushing for a reorientation of our national mentality. The playwright criticized individuals and organizations through hilarious representation of serious issues of corruption and gross wrongdoing in the private and public lives of the nation.
