ABSTRACT
The issue of cultism has inspite of many effort at reducing it, soared up in the Nigeria tertiary institutions. Cultism is a small group of people who have extreme religious believes and are not part of an established religion. Cultism has destroyed so many life's, wasted so many family's, aborted so many future, make our school or institution of learning uncomfortable. It is repeatedly said that the youth are for future leader but it is a little wonder what the future holds for the youth of this country which have a good proportion of her youth as a secret cult member. It therefore became imperative to carefully redress the issue of cultism in our tertiary institution, where reason should rule over emotion. On doubtedly, the issue has assume horrifying porpotion has cut violence thrives even more. Cultism should be eradicated from our society, without knowing the cause of a problem there is not solution. This study therefore focuses on the causes, consequences and control of cultism in university of benin. Using questionaire administration, student were selected from University of Benin. The findings revealed that parents, per group, quest for power and inadequate use of counseling service are factors responsible for the growth of cultism in our university. recommendation were made on how to eradicate cultist in university of Benin.
