ABSTRACT
This study investigated the compensation regime and performance efficiency of non-academic staff in the University of Benin. For an effective and efficient performance in the organization, an equitable-based, performance-based and competence-based compensation regime should be administered in the organization. The objective of the study is to examine the dynamic nature of the compensation regime of the non-academic staff of University of Benin, examine if non-financial compensation stimulates organization performance efficiency of the non-academic staff of University of Benin, examine if there is equity in the compensation regime among the non-academic staff of University of Benin and finally to examine the challenges associated with compensation regime among the non-academic staff of University of Benin. In order to achieve the set goal of the study, five research questions were raised and hypotheses formulated. The instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire which was administered to a total number of 368 respondents with a 99.5% return rate. The data collected was analyzed using frequency and percentages and the Pearson correlation statistics. The study finding reveals that there is no mechanism or strategy put in place to ascertain staff with performance efficiency which led to inconsistency in the compensation regime by the management of the institution to the non-academic staff in the institution. The study recommends that the management of the institution should encourage staff to acquire skills and send them on refreshing courses and training.
