ABSTRACT
The study put forward a case for ‘ọ̀…ọ̀mwà’ as a nominal circumfix in Ẹdo. The focus of the study was to discuss the morphological properties of the circumfix and other nominal affixation processes in Ẹdo. It explained that the affixation processes in Ẹdo can be simple and complex.
The study relied on the basic linguistic theory to analyze the data collected. The data relied on were primary data collected orally from competent speakers of the language using the observation and interview methods. The instrument used for collecting the data comprised analogue and digital equipment, i.e., writing materials and a voice recorder.
The study found out that the ‘ọ̀…ọ̀mwà’ circumfix is a nominal affix in Ẹdo. It was also found out that the ‘ọ̀…ọ̀mwà’ affix is a complex affix and it can be used with both verbs and adjectives. Its use with adjectives is however very minimal in the language. Furthermore the ‘ọ̀…ọ̀mwà’ affix can be used to create functional and stative nouns.
