ABSTRACT
In other to meet the growing need for housing accommodation in Nigeria, new ideas, techniques and methods for achieving this need has been developed. One of suchideas, is now collectively known as Modern Methods of Construction (MMC). This technique has been widely used in developed countries, but not so much as indeveloping countries. This study is aimed at investigating the level of awareness anduse of Modern Method of Construction technique in the South-South zone of Nigeria, using Edo State as a case study. In order to achieve the intended purposes, site visits, photographs, and desk studies were carried out. Questions were also raised to guide the study using the approach of a Likert scale questionnaire. The questionnaire was used to collect data for theresearch. Data elicited from 50 respondents from various professions (Contractors, Architects, Engineers, Quantity surveyors, foremen, Estate managers, builders andothers) within the area of study were analyzed using frequency counts, bar graphs andpie charts. As a result of the analysis of collected data, findings were made, which include: the existence of the use of modern method of construction techniques but has not yet gained momentum despite the numerous benefits of this method of construction techniques. The conclusion drawn indicated in order to encourage the use of modern methodof construction techniques in the construction industry, more sensitization of the general public on this method of construction techniques through the TV, newspapers, social media, seminars etc. The government on the other hand has a broad role of passing abroad policy that advocates the use of modern methods of construction for housing project to curb the huge housing deficit in the nation.
