ABSTRACT
Generation, disposal and management of solid wastes is progressively becoming a major challenge in many cities of developing nations because of rapid urbanization and rise in population. Indiscriminate dumping of solid wastes along the streets and roads corners causes pollution, flooding and kills beauty of the city they also provide breeding ground for vectors which causes a lot of deadly infectious diseases which could be responsible for the large proportion of morbidity and mortality in Nigeria.
The focus of this study was to appraise the generation and disposal of solid waste at fegge Onitsha south local government area of in Anambra state. This study was conducted between march and September 2015 , field survey was done through questionnaire administration were 150 questionnaires were administered and 148 where retrieved after dividing the area into 5axis (30 per axis), descriptive method of analysis was used where frequency distribution tables and charts were used, the result of this study show that refuse was generated moderately in the area and that waste disposal and management had some problems arising mostly from peoples attitude towards waste disposal and management practices, ranging from indiscriminate disposal to non payment of sanitation levy.
Based on the findings of the work, waste disposal and management practices were discovered to be good in the area, and some important recommendations were made to improve the various practices. The appraisal of Impacts of solid Waste Generation and Disposal in Fegge, Onitsha South Local Government
