SUMMARY

The results of this study are similar to Bawa et al., (2021) where there was high prevalence of bacteria counts which exceeded the permissible limit of the World Health Organisaton (WHO), 2018. The Implication of this are detrimental to Human health and when not controlled in time can lead to greater prevalence of disease causing bacteria in our community.

The common isolate common between this study and that of the Ogidi et al., (2013) is Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The results of the research show that Escherichia coli had a prevalence rate of 33% which is relatively high compared to the study by Ogidi et al., (2013), that had 12%. In this study Staphylococcus aureus has the highest prevalence of 50%.  The difference of prevalence rate of isolates may be due to the difference source of sample collection. 

Staphylococcus aureus is an opportunistic pathogen, which is the major cause of nosocomial and community infections. This versatile bacterium can invade many tissues and then causes a wide spectrum of infections (cutaneous abscesses, endocarditis, septic shock, etc.)Its pathogenesis depends on the production of numerous wall-associated or secreted virulence factors (Dale et al., 2004;  Novick & Geisinger, 2008).
