ABSTRACT

This study was intended to examine the effects of skill acquisition on entrepreneurship for business education students in university of benin. This study was guided by the following objectives; to understand the impact of skill acquisition on entrepreneurship development on the students, to identify the reasons for the introduction of skill acquisition programme in the higher institutions of learning in Nigeria and to examine the challenges facing skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development in the higher institutions of learning in Nigeria. The study employed the descriptive and explanatory design; questionnaires in addition to library research were applied in order to collect data. Primary and secondary data sources were used and data was analyzed using the chi square statistical tool at 5% level of significance which was presented in frequency tables and percentage. The respondents under the study were 100 students in University of benin, Nigeria. The study findings revealed that entrepreneurship skill acquisition is the key to sustainable development in Edo state; based on the findings from the study, government should ensure that educational programmes at all levels of education are relevant and functional to the graduate youth that needed entrepreneurship skills.
