ABSTRACT

The rapid digitization of the Nigerian economy has prompted significant transformations in business operations and revenue generation. This study delves into the intricate relationship between tax compliance and the digitalization of the Nigerian economy, focusing specifically on agency banking in Edo State. Utilizing a survey research design, primary data is collected through a self-designed questionnaire. The research thoroughly investigates the impact of digital technologies on tax compliance, dissects the primary drivers of tax compliance, uncovers associated challenges, and identifies potential opportunities. Government initiatives and strategies designed to foster the digitalization of tax administration are meticulously evaluated. The study provides insightful comparisons of tax compliance levels between digitally-enabled businesses and their traditionally-operated counterparts. Employing a random sampling technique, the research selects a representative sample of 50 self-employed individuals engaged in agency banking in Edo State.
