ABSTRACT
This study investigates some repair strategies in Esan, an Edoid language in south-south Nigeria. Being a phonological study, its first analysis is on the sound system of Esan, which is followed by the syllable structures of the language as well as the syllable patterns in the language (V and CV) at the phonemic level, it also observes that the CV sometimes have the CCV surface structure which is a result of glide formation. In investigating some repair strategies in Esan, data was extracted from published materials (which is a secondary means of data collection) and analyzed qualitatively using the CV phonological model as a frame work. The findings include, vowel elision, glide formation and nasalization as repair strategies in the language.
