ABSTRACT

Considering the high demand of concrete, due to its suitability in construction. The need for the constituent materials of concrete is correspondingly high. Therefore, it has become necessary to find substitute of any of the constituent of concrete and reduce cost and create availability.  This study is about the determination of the suitability of granulated waste glass as partial replacement for fine aggregate in concrete.

The test was carried out by partially replacing fine aggregate in 6 sets of percentages, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, to determine the most suitable and acceptable degree of replacement, that won’t compromise the structural integrity of the structure.

The results obtained shows no significant difference in terms of strength between the concrete made from the natural river sand and those made with replacements. However, the maximum compressive strength was obtained when the sand was replaced with 15% of the granulated waste glass material. The average compressive strength for 7 days of curing was 20.7 N/mm2 for 14 days 21.7 N/mm2 While for 28 days is 23.4 N/mm2, Therefore the Average Compressive Strength after 28 days for 15% Replacement is 21.93KN/mm2, which when compared to that of 0% of the granulated waste glass material, which is 100% is Average Compressive Strength after 28 days for 100% fine aggregate is 21.28 KN/mm2

When compared the difference is negligible.
