SUMMARY
This research work examined the historical background of the succession dispute in Ayuele clan as relates to the Agbede Obaship throne and also the causes of the dispute and the impact it has had on the Agbede people. Based on the findings that were gathered, religion [Islam] is a dominant aspect of the Agbede people and Ayuele clan in general. Religion, is however not the major cause of the dispute. The study it is clear that the issue of ‘father to the son’ was not a law in Aghede. More so the Islam which the community professes does not support it. Agbede people have had to bare the negative consequences of living in a community without a leader. There has been an unprecedented increase in crime rate, development and progress on several aspects of the community has been exceptionally slow, there is no authority to enforce law and order and the community is slowly losing its sense of unity and cohesion. The following recommendations are provided in the light of the analysis and conclusions of this study:
