STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION OF PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT ON SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

ABSTRACT

This study investigated students’ perception of parental involvement on secondary school students academic performance in mathematics in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State. This study was guided by four research questions and three hypotheses. The study employed the descriptive survey research design. Questionnaire having 14 items was constructed and administered in order to collect data. Data was analyzed using statistical measures and the three hypotheses were tested using the t-test statistical tool at 5% level of significance. The respondents for the study were 100 students from 5 schools in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State. The findings showed that that students’ perception of the relationship between parental involvements and secondary school students’ academic performance in mathematics do not significantly differ. A major recommendation of the study was parents should take sufficient attention to their children’s studies especially in mathematics.
