ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to examined Students’ Discipline as Correlate of Academic Performance of Students Offering Edu 412 (Introduction to Educational Management), University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State. In a bid to achieve the purpose intended, four (4) research questions were raised to enable the researcher achieve the objectives of the study.
The study adopted Descriptive Research Design and the population of this study consist 397 students in 400 level in the Department of Educational Management. The simple random sampling techniques was adopted. A sample of (100) respondents was randomly selected from the population. frequency and simple percentage was used.
The findings showed that discipline correlate with academic performance of student. Also, it indicates that discipline is crucial for a positive school climate conducive for teaching and learning in management economic and political science education. Disciplined student is one whose behaviors, actions conform to predetermined rules and regulations of the school. It was also revealed that discipline can lead to high level of student academic performance in EDU412. Lack of interest in school program can affect the level of academic performance of student offering EDU412. The study therefore recommends that there is need for school University of Benin School authority to promote positive behavioral interventions programs that recognize and reward good behavior, schools that can motivate students to adhere to discipline standards and engage more fully in their education. Also, there is need for utilizing interactive and relevant teaching methods, educators can spark interest in the curriculum, helping students see the value in their studies and reducing feelings of disinterest that often lead to poor academic performance.
