ABSTRACT
The study was carried out to determine “ Student's awareness and use of digital technology for vocabulary development in secondary school students in Egor local government area”. Three research questions were raised and research questions 3 was hypothesized.
The research design used for this study was the descriptive survey design. The population of the study consists of the 2227 public senoir secondary school one (1) in Egor Local Government Area.The sample size selected for this study is one hundred (100) SSI students, selected randomly using simple random sampling technique. Descriptive statistics was used in analysing research question one and two while research question three which was hypothesised was tested using t.test of independent sample. The hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance.
Findings from the study revealed that; Most students are aware of various digital tools available for vocabulary development, such as language learning apps, online dictionaries, and vocabulary games, students predominantly use mobile apps like Duolingo, Memrise, or Quizlet for learning and practicing new vocabulary, highlighting the convenience and engagement provided by these platforms, students show a preference for multimedia resources (videos, interactive games, flashcards) over traditional methods (textbooks, rote memorization) for vocabulary. The following recommendations are made There should be comprehensive digital literacy programs integrated into the curriculum. These programs would ensure that students are not only aware of the various digital tools available for vocabulary development but also proficient in using them effectively. This includes training on educational apps, online dictionaries, and language learning platforms. There should be regular workshops and training sessions for teachers. Educators need to be equipped with the latest digital tools and teaching strategies to facilitate vocabulary development. These sessions would enable teachers to incorporate technology seamlessly into their lessons, making vocabulary learning more engaging and interactive.
