ABSTRACT
The study examined STUDENT-ATHLETES PERCEPTION OF WEARABLE DEVICES IN TRACKING SPORT PERFORMANCES. The use of wearable devices in sports has become increasingly popular, but little is known about student-athletes' perceptions of these devices. This study aimed to bridge this knowledge gap by investigating student-athletes' attitudes, perceived benefits, and limitations of wearable devices in tracking sports performance. A descriptive survey design was employed, with a sample of 150 student-athletes from the University of Benin. The results showed that student-athletes have a positive attitude towards wearable devices, perceiving them as useful tools for tracking sports performance and enhancing athletic performance. The majority of respondents agreed that wearable devices provide accurate and reliable data, inform training decisions, and offer a competitive edge in sports. However, the study also revealed several limitations of wearable devices, including distractions during competition, discomfort, and battery life concerns. Additionally, student-athletes expressed concerns about data privacy and security, highlighting the need for effective data management strategies. The study's findings have significant implications for coaches, trainers, and sports professionals, highlighting the need for effective integration of wearable devices into training programs. The results also underscore the importance of addressing the limitations identified by student-athletes, including the need for user-friendly devices, robust data management strategies, and ongoing education and support. Overall, this study contributes to the growing body of research on wearable devices in sports, providing valuable insights into student-athletes' perceptions of these devices. The findings have practical implications for the development of effective training programs, the design of wearable devices, and the optimization of athletic performance.
