ABSTRACT
Biological assays have been around since the early 1800s, thanks to scientists like Claude Bernard, who used animals to study how bodies respond to things. One big breakthrough was when Dr. Emil von Behring and Dr. Emile Roux discovered a treatment for diphtheria, a dangerous infection. This study looks at how we use biological assays to compare different treatments in experiments. We want to see which treatments work best and if they make a real difference. This study explores the application and significance of biological assays, focusing on the comparison of treatment groups within experimental or non-experimental setups. The aim is to evaluate and compare the outcomes of different groups in the study, identifying the effectiveness of various treatments and assessing their statistical significance. The literature review provides an overview of existing research on statistical analysis in biological assays and related reviews of stress management interventions. Various applications of biological assays across scientific disciplines are explored. Also, in our chapter three we examined the effectiveness of stress management interventions among university students at the University of Benin, focusing on their impact on academic performance. A descriptive survey research approach was employed, utilizing a cross-sectional design. Data was collected through self-administered questionnaires distributed to 120 undergraduate students.
The study applied statistical analysis techniques such as ANOVA, Logistic regression analyses and cross tabulation to analyze the data. Results indicated that there was no significant difference in academic performance between students who participated in stress management interventions and those who did not. Additionally, the study found no significant relationship between potential factors such as family support, living environment, mental or physical health issues, motivation, and participation in stress management interventions. The findings suggest a need for further research utilizing longitudinal studies to establish more robust evidence of the effectiveness of stress management interventions over time. Limitations of the study include reliance on self-reported data and the use of a cross-sectional design, which hinders the establishment of causal relationships between variables. Despite these limitations, the study provides insights into the challenges and potential avenues for improving stress management interventions among university students.
