ABSTRACT
African nations still need to completely grasp how to use sports to further their goals, increase their political clout, and expand their influence internationally. Sports become a close partner of diplomacy when they transcend national borders. A developing area of the international sports sector and a significant component of diplomatic practice is sports diplomacy. This study's primary goal is to determine the role of sports diplomacy in advancing national interests in Africa, particularly that of Cameroon. In order to further regional objectives in achieving Cameroon's national goals, international relations, and foreign economic relations, the research aims to investigate and assess the function of sports diplomacy. The research employed a historical methodology. There was utilization of secondary sources such as books, journal, conference and internal sources. The study found that sports diplomacy may be utilized to further national interests and that it could be viewed as a component of a state's process of forging its identity. The study also discovered that establishing Cameroon's reputation as a regional leader while drawing in investors who are still in the early stages of their decision-making process was a successful approach. According to the study's findings, Cameroonian football players have the potential to advance their country's interests, particularly if they are chosen to represent their country in athletics at the UN.
