Particulate matter (PM) is a major component of outdoor air pollution and the term refers to a complex mixture of solid particles and liquid droplets suspended in air. The spatial distribution of mean PM2.5 concentrations across twenty outdoor locations in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State was determined using a BIAOLING air quality monitor. The sampling locations were randomly generated using ARC GIS version 10.8 software. Sampling was conducted once monthly during the period spanning from June to July 2023 and the air quality index (AQI) values were also derived using an appropriate equation. The mean PM2.5 values recorded for both months were subjected to unpaired T test analysis which was conducted at 95% probability level. The mean PM2.5 values obtained from the respective sampling points for June ranged from 10.3µg/m3 to 45.33µg/m3 and 10.3µg/m3 to 43.33µg/m3 for July, 2023. The AQI values recorded for June, 2023 ranged from 43 to 125.1 and 43 to 120.2 for the month of July, 2023. The difference between the two groups of PM 2.5 mean data was insignificant (P >0.05). The air quality index of the sampled outdoor locations within Oredo LGA was generally good. It is recommended that more related studies focusing on the outdoor air quality of both residential and commercial locations across Oredo LGAshould be conducted.
