ABSTRACT
This study spatial distribution of mortuaries in Benin City illustrates how mortuaries are been distributed across a geographical space within Benin City. Stratified and random sampling methods were used in this study. Nine neighborhoods in Benin City were visited, they include Ugbowo, Avbiama, Okhoro, Ogba, Obe, Orodo, Isiuwa, Ibiwe and Iguosi. The main objective of this study is to find out how mortuaries are spatially distributed within the city. From the data obtained, it was established that majority of the male respondents are willing to venture into this business because they see it as a lucrative business. Some are of the opinion that if given enough money they will establish a mortuary business irrespective of the risks involved. People also keeps dead bodies for a longer period as a result of no funds to carry out the necessary arrangement needed for the deceased to be buried. Some tradition also permits dead bodies to be keep in the mortuaries so as to carry out the required arrangement for the dismissal of the corpse.
