ABSTRACT
This experiment was conducted in the Experimental Field sited behind Faculty of Agriculture, University of Benin, Benin City to ascertain the physical and chemical properties of the soil and the agronomic performance of Egusi-melon (Colocynthis citrullus) and kidney-bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in sole cropping and intercrop.
The experimental design used was RCBD (Randomized Complete Block Design), with three levels of same treatment that was replicated three times.
Composite soil sample was collected before the experiment while samples were taken from each plot after the experiment. Soil parameters determined include: pH, TOC, TN, Avail. P, K, Ca, Mg, Na, H+, Al3+, sand, silt and clay while plant parameters measured include: vine length, stem girth, number of leaves and weight of fresh pod per plant.
