SUMMARY

This study has been able to analyze to a reasonable extent the meaning of igbabonelimhin masquerades in our community. We have been able to look at what meaning is, and related it to how used. This study also looked at how masquerade uses paralinguistic to communicate to the audience and also to the larger society. We analyzed how masquerade performance in esan culture are symbolizations.

The theoritical framework "semiotic analysis" using symbols and signs to decide meaning. It is used to precisely describe the masquerade. The data for the study was images of the masquerades in different display and also the instruments. The data was sourced from Ebelle community. Which involved oral interview and also watching the masquerade displayed their skills live in the scene.
