SUMMARY
It is necessary to say that historians have not draw deficient attention to the role kingdoms and empires play in the flourish of the Nigerian geographical areas in the shaping of what we may refer to as modern Nigeria.
It is not enough to say that our people traded together and that they intermarried. They did more, the kingdoms and empires through conquests assimilation and other processes brought many Nigerian peoples together, in different geographical locations. The Benin Empire had within it not only those who may be described as Edoid, but also Yoruba and Igbo. It has relations with Igala and Nupe kingdoms.
