ABSTRACT
This study attempt to analyze the socio-economic impact of oil palm plantation in Irri ward II of Isoko south local government area of Delta State. the research objective include: to find out if palm plantation has negative impact in the study area. To identify problem oil palm plantation in the study area. To determine the socio-economic characteristics of oil palm plantation farmer in the ward II. The research adopted personal interview and questionnaire to generate data. The research revealed that most of the oil palm plantation farmers are male, 50% of the farmers have no formal education and large percentage of the farmer have access to land for oil palm plantation through inheritance, while problems militating against the growth of oil palm plantation include land tenure problems, unstable price of oil palm product, marketing of the oil palm plantation among others. This study recommends that in order to encourage of palm plantation in the study area the government should make land available to interested oil palm farmers and information on oil palm plantation in all the media house through radio programme among others means to encourages oil palm plantation in the study area.
