ABSTRACT

Thermal comfort has a significant impact on people's working circumstances as well as their moods. It is possible to build a comfortable environment to get the most comfort. One of the best ways to create a welcoming workplace is to use shade equipment. This study evaluates the impact of shading devices on residential structures' thermal comfort and the efficiency of these solar shading components in fostering a comfortable thermal environment. The study's scope is in the residential structures in southern Nigeria, primarily the University of Benin in the Metropolitan City of Edo State. The study analyzes the benefits of shading devices and how they affect thermal comfort based on their orientation, position, and kind; all of these are analyzed and covered in detail in the chapters that came before. To accomplish the project's stated goal, simulation software was used to measure the degree to which shading devices affect thermal comfort (Ecotect 2011). The analysis's relevant data were gathered through the research and entered into Ecotect 2011's simulation program. Following Autodesk Revit modeling, Ecotect 2011 was used to simulate the structure's overall thermal comfort percentage. In conclusion, research results showed that the installation of shade equipment in residential buildings raises the level of thermal comfort on average in the building. To avoid inadequate thermal comfort in buildings, it is advised that simulations of building models will be used during the design stages as a control measure.
