ABSTRACT
This study looked with the New critical theory lenses, at Sexism in Laden Osman's The Kitchen Dweller's Testimony and Safia Elhillo's The January Children.
In this study we looked into the poetry collection of these poets taking a line upon line technique.
In Chapter Two of this research study, titled "Sexism in Laden Osman's 'The Kitchen Dwellers' Testimony'," we delved into an in-depth analysis of Osman's collection of poems. Through close reading and critical interpretation, we explored the pervasive and insidious nature of sexism within the pages of this powerful work.
Osman's collection highlights the experiences of women who have been silenced, marginalized, and stripped of their agency within a patriarchal society. Her evocative language and vivid imagery paint a vivid picture of the everyday struggles faced by women in their personal and public lives. Themes of domesticity, identity, and the constraints of societal expectations are recurrent throughout the collection, reflecting the oppressive nature of sexism.
We examined how Osman employs literary techniques such as metaphor, style and symbolism to convey the varying dimensions of sexism.
