ABSTRACT
Hepatitis B and C viruses in particular, can cause acute and chronic hepatic infections and are the leading causes for liver cirrhosis and cancer, thus creating a significant burden to healthcare systems due to the high morbidity, mortality and costs of treatment. The aim of this research was to evaluate the seroprevalence of Hepatitis B and C viral infections among Commercial Sex Workers (CSW) in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria. Veinous blood samples (about 4mls) were collected from a total of one hundred and fifty randomly selected and consenting CSWs residing in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria into ethylene diamine tetracetic acid (EDTA) containers.. The blood samples were transferred to the laboratory and spun at 3000rpm for 10mins to obtain plasma. The HBV and HCV status of the participants were determined using Abon HBsAg and HCV qualitative test kits.
