ABSTRACT

This study examines the semantics relations of the E̥do language. It aims to explore and identify the major semantics relations in the E̥do language, to investigate the metaphorical extensions employed by E̥do speakers, and to further analyze the organization of semantics network in the E̥do lexicon. Data collection was carried out through structured oral interviews, direct observation, and participatory observation by the researcher. The secondary data were elicited from an E̥do-English Lexicon Dictionary and other texts written in E̥do. The study adopted cognitive linguistics as it’s theoretical framework. The investigation reveals that, they are complex web connections between words in the E̥do language. Just as shown under synonyms(words having similar or identical meanings e.g fian and Gia , both means to 'cut'), antonyms(words opposite in meaning e.g to̥n 'hot’ and wowa 'cold’), polysemy, Homonymy e.t.c.
