ABSTRACT

People have always felt the need to share information about their lives. With the advent of social media, this practice has become increasingly prevalent. Parents share the achievements of their children on social media, young ones and even adults give personal updates on their lives on social media, and this has thus prompted the need for this research study. This research study will focus on the online sharing habits of Nigerian preteens and young adults. This is termed with the word ‘self-sharenting’ which refers to a phenomenon where individuals share personal information about themselves on social media platforms. This research study will examine some of the motivation behind self-sharenting practices among Nigerian preteens and young adults, it will also assess the extent of personal information that is shared on social media and the perceived risks associated with this practice among the Nigerian preteens and young adults. This will help to promote safe and mindful sharing on social media among the Nigerian preteens and young adult
