SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION ON THE IMPACT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHERS’

ABSTRACT

The study investigated Secondary School Students’ Perception On The Impact of English Language Teachers’ Competence And Method On Their English Language Proficiency In Public Senior Secondary Schools In Egor Local Government Area Of Edo State a case study. In the course of this study, the descriptive research survey design was chosen for the study, and simple random techniques were used to get the respondents and data for the survey. A total of two hundred students were used as the sample study size. The instrument was validated and tested for reliability. Responses from the questionnaires were used to answer the four research questions that were raised to guide the study. The findings highlight the numerous perceptions of students on their English Teachers competence, encompassing Teachers competence and Students Academic Performance, increased knowledge of the Teachers quality and method which enhances the grades of students and their proficiency in English Language. Additionally, the experience of the Teacher is important, as this helps in the learning outcome of students. Based on the research findings, the study proposes several key recommendations, including school management or school authority checking and monitoring the teachers and their methods used in teaching English language, employing qualified and experienced teachers, and organizing seminars or workshop for teachers which will influence the students' proficiency in English Language.
