ABSTRACT
Pathogens pose a major threat to the agricultural sector. The use of biocontrol method has been observed to be a harmless and effective way of controlling these pathogens. The aim of this research was to screen agricultural soil samples for bacterial biocontrol agent. Bacteria were isolated from two agricultural soil samples, Pathogenic bacteria were also isolated from disease tomatoes plant. Morphological, cultural, and biochemical characterizations were conducted to identify the bacterial isolates. Each of the bacterial isolates was co-cultured against a pathogen. Growth of the potential biocontrol agent and the pathogen were recorded for three days. The bacterium that had biocontrol ability was confirmed using molecular characterization. The results showed that Bacillus lichenioformis ,Clavibacter, michiganesis, Pseudomonas syringae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were identified. Bacillus lichenioformis 70% grew above Pseudomonas syringae,30% suggesting a competition-based mechanism of biocontrol activity The molecular analysis of the bacterial isolate confirmed the identity to the strain level.
