SCHOOL RECORD MANAGEMENT AND PRINCIPALS’ ADMINISTRATIVE EFFECTIVENESS IN PUBLIC SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

The study assessed school record management and principals’ administrative effectiveness in public senior secondary schools in Oredo local government area of Edo state, using a self-structured questionnaire with four research questions that guided the public senior teachers. The population of the study comprised of all the fourteen (14) public senior secondary school in Oredo local government area of Edo state. The respondents were the three hundred and twenty-four (324) senior teachers in oredo local government area. Five (5) public senior secondary schools were selected as the sample size from the fourteen public senior secondary schools using the simple random sampling technique and this represented thirty-six (36) percentage of the study population. Ten (10) teachers were chosen from each sampled public senior secondary school which summed fifty (50) public senior teachers as respondents using convenient sampling technique. The questionnaire was titled “SCHOOL RECORD MANAGEMENT AND PRINCIPALS’ ADMINISTRATIVE EFFECTIVENESS IN PUBLIC SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE”. The study adopted the descriptive statistical methods of data analysis such as frequency table, percentage, mean score and standard deviations with a mean criterion (decision rule) of 2.50. Also, the Pearson Moment Coefficient Correlation technique were used to analyzed data collected from the respondents and the hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The reliability of the research instrument used was tested using the test-retest method and the result was calculated with the application of Pearson’s Product Method Correlation Coefficient and the reliability coefficient was obtained to be 0.76.

 

The findings revealed that there is a high level of school records management and principals’ administrative effectiveness in public senior secondary schools in Oredo local government area of Edo state. Also, the study showed that a significant relationship exists between school record management and principals’ administrative effectiveness in Oredo local government area of Edo state.  And lastly, a significant relationship exists between school record management 5and principals’ administrative effectiveness based on gender in the public senior secondary schools in Oredo local government area of Edo State.

 

Based on the findings, it was concluded that school record management had a significant impact on principals’ administrative effectiveness in public senior secondary schools in Oredo local government area of Edo state. The following recommendations were made; despite the level of school records management and principals’ administrative effectiveness in public senior secondary schools was high, more effort should be made to improve on school record management and principals should always work in hand with teachers in order to better administration.
