ABSTRACT

Road infrastructure is a critical component of urban development, facilitating connectivity and economic activities. However, the residents of Evbuotubu-Iguedaiye Iguogie road in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State have faced challenges due to inadequate access. This project aims to conduct a comprehensive route alignment survey and geometric design for the Evbuotubu-Iguedaiye Iguogie road.

The methodology adopted for this project employed the High-Target GNSS Equipment for precise data acquisition along the road segment at regular 25-meter intervals. The GNSS receiver facilitated the collection of X, Y, and Z coordinates, essential for creating a detailed geospatial dataset. Subsequently, AutoCAD Civil 3D software was utilized for processing the acquired data and generating geometric designs. Civil 3D enabled the creation of horizontal and vertical alignment profiles, cross-sections, and volume calculations, ensuring compliance with design standards and regulatory requirements.             

The results from this project is a well detailed geometric design of the road which includes the horizontal and vertical alignment profiles, cross-section designs, and volume calculations for cut and fill. The total cut volume was determined to be 10,101.46 m3, with a fill volume of 559.96 m3. Additionally, the total cut area and fill area were measured at 408.3m2 and 23.99 m2 respectively. Cross-sections of the road at every 25-meter interval were generated using AutoCAD Civil 3D which shows the elevation of the road segment. A typical road section was designed, incorporating elements such as well-compacted subgrade, laterite sub-base, compacted base layer, stone base, and wearing course or asphalt. The compacted layer, which comes after the wearing course, has a thickness of 150mm, while the wearing course has a thickness of 50mm. In conclusion, the geometric design was successfully achieved.
