ABSTRACT:
AIM: To assess the popular choice of treatment between extraction and root canal treatment amongst patients presenting at the Oral Diagnosis clinic at the University of Benin Teaching hospital. METHOD: A retrospective study was conducted among patients who presented at the Oral diagnosis clinic at the Dental Centre, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, Nigeria. Data was obtained from case notes of patients who presented from October 2019 to 0ctober 2021 and was analyzed with IBM SPSS version 25.0 and frequency distribution and cross tabulation were computed for categorical variables. RESULT: 1795 case notes were assessed with mean age of 39.7 ± 16.4. The results shows that majority of the Patients (1515, 84.4%) eventually had Extraction done for them, while Patients that eventually had Root Canal Therapy done for them were 280 (15.6%). CONCLUSION: This study has shown that Extraction is still the popular choice of treatment among patients in our society KEYWORDS: Extraction, Root Canal Therapy.
