The purpose of the study is to examine Risk Factors of Cardiovascular Diseases among University of Benin Students. Specifically, the study seeks to; Examine the Self-reported Pattern of Cardiovascular disease risk factors among students of the university of Benin and Explore the Level of Awareness of the Prevention of the risk factors associated with Cardiovascular diseases among undergraduates in the University of Benin. Further, in this research work, two (2) research questions were raised to guide this study.
A descriptive survey research design was adopted to carry out this study. The population of the study comprises the 16 faculties of the University of Benin. The population comprises full time Undergraduate students of the various facilities during 2022/2023 academic session. The present population of the University of Benin undergraduates is 43,884 students (22109 female and 21,775 male). The proportion random sampling technique was used to get a sample size of 116 students. The research Instrument used was a structured questionnaire used to obtain data from the sample population based on the attribute of interest; content validity. The validity of the instrument was carried out by the supervisor and two other lecturers from the department of Health, Safety and Environmental Education. A test - retest method was used to obtain the reliability of the instrument. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics such as simple percentage and frequency table.
The findings of the study revealed that the self-reported pattern of risk factors among undergraduate in the University of Benin is equally good and fair, the study also revealed that undergraduates in the University of Benin have high levels of awareness of the Prevention of Risk Factors of Cardiovascular Diseases.
