REVENUE MOBILIZATION AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT

ABSTRACT

The paper examined and analyzed revenue mobilization and urban development in Oredo local government from 2010 to 2020. The paper noted that despite the fact that the Oredo local Government is regarded as the richest in Edo state, the local government is still yet to attain a level of true development as there is still a lot of work to be done when it comes to provisions and proper monitoring of what constitutes development in several facets. As a result, the objectives were the impact of revenue mobilization on provision of primary health care services, infrastructural facilities, basic education and employment, due to the deplorable state of the rural areas and lack of essential amenities and facilities leading to mass migration and crimes. All these have affected efficiency and effectiveness in public service delivery and Nation building. Mobilization and appropriate use of funds to the grassroot is thought to bolster development and good governance by providing fair mechanisms for social provision that brings about the consciousness of unity and progress. Materials were gotten from both primary and secondary sources, In effect, the paper concludes that these have slowed down the processes of socioeconomic and political development which can only be resolved when local government becomes more pragmatic in their understanding of what constitutes real development. Moreover, Given these findings, it was recommended, among others, that the local government should be more serious and careful in project implementation which further makes grassroot development achievement possible. As agent of grassroot development, local government should be up and doing in areas of policy formation and decision-making in project implementation, which in turn can bring about grassroot development programs that will create an avenue in devising ways of controlling the problems of grassroot development.
