ABSTRACT
This study assessed Residents of Port Harcourt City Perception of Sexual Portrayals in Big Brother Naija Reality Television Shows. The study was aimed at ascertaining the Influence of BBN reality television show on residents’ behaviour in Port Harcourt City, rivers sate State Nigeria. Survey Research approach was used in sampling a total population of 415,344 with a sample size of 400 all in Port Harcourt Local Government Area in Rivers State using Multi-stage sampling method. The study leveraged on the Cultivation theory and Selective perception theory to validate the influence of media portrayals on audience behaviour. Findings revealed that respondents were exposed to the program and found it to be very good. It was also revealed that sexually activities in BBN influenced respondents’ sexual behaviour very great. Thus, producers of the program should as a matter urgency and necessity designed the program that in such a way it will not only be educative or entertaining but also promoting the right moral values in the society. The study hereby recommend among many other things that producers of Big brother Naija should as a matter of necessity seek ways to promote the value that the programme was meant for.
