ABSTRACT
Dialium guineense (Velvet tamarind) is one of the most planted species in Nigeria and several African nations. The leaves and other parts of the plants are well known for their therapeutic purposes (anti-microbial, anti-diarrhea, anti-vibro, anti-oxidant) in traditional system of medicine, so Dialium guineense and plant extracts have been examined widely. The objective of this investigation is to assess the renal protective properties of Dialium guineense stem bark against streptozotocin-induced renal toxicity.
From this study, findings showed that streotozotocin (STZ) increased urea levels and serum electrolyte levels in streptozotocin-induced rats. The treatment of the rats with the extract and metformin lowered the elevated renal indices. The results of this investigation reveal that the methanol fraction of ethanol extract of Dialium guineense stem bark has efficacious qualities and can be utilized to treat renal impairment caused by STZ.
