ABSTRACT
From pre-colonial times to the present day, Nigeria's diverse ethnic groups have grappled with issues of identity, power, and resource allocation, often resulting in intergroup tensions, communal clashes, and even full-scale armed conflicts. Colonial legacies, political power struggles, socio-economic disparities, and the manipulation of ethnic identities by politicians have all contributed to the perpetuation of ethnic conflicts in Nigeria. Moving forward, addressing the root causes of ethnic tensions, promoting inclusive governance, and fostering dialogue and reconciliation among diverse ethnic groups are essential for building a more cohesive, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria. There is therefore the need for a Sovereign National Conference open to all groups and sections in the country to table and discuss what their grievances are and how Nigeria should be governed. Only by embracing the richness of its cultural diversity and transcending ethnic divides can Nigeria realize its full potential as a united and thriving nation.
