Abstract
In Nigeria, the Muslim community predominantly resides in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, while the Christian community remains a minority. Historically, these two religious groups coexisted peacefully, contributing to Kwara's reputation as the "State of Harmony." However, recent tensions have emerged, particularly surrounding the use of Hijāb by Muslim female students in schools previously owned by Christian missionaries. This research aims to explore the religious conflicts in Nigeria, specifically focusing on their implications within Kwara State and seeking viable solutions to the crisis in the Ilorin Emirate. The study employed a quantitative research design, utilizing questionnaires to gather primary data from respondents. Preliminary findings indicate that many participants believe religious conflicts disrupt academic activities, cause emotional distress, deter teachers from attending school, and even lead to health issues such as heart attacks. Furthermore, these conflicts result in limited interactions among educators of different faiths. To address these challenges, the paper recommends that the government establish platforms for dialogue among leaders of various religious groups to foster mutual understanding and respect. Continuous communication is essential for dispelling misconceptions and nurturing relationships based on shared values. Additionally, organizing annual interfaith conferences at both national and community levels can promote unity and collaboration among different religious communities.
