ABSTRACT

A reliability analysis of a brewery packaging line was carried out for all machines in the entire line 5. This work covered a period of twelve months. A pareto was used to graphically show the main contributing factor to the breakdown and therefore help to determine which area to focus on.

Weibull Distribution parameters  ,  In(t) were used to analyze downtimes and it’s effects. Some measures such as Data grouping, Pie charting, Pareto analysis, Failure and reliability of the components             were useful to access the current condition of the packaging line.

From the results obtained, the system shows that  reliability (R) = 0.1195 which is 11.95% is largely affected by the line efficiency loss which constitutes the machine breakdown. It was also found that; (a) the Weibull distribution provided the best fit for the brewery packaging line to describe the time between failures, (b) the failure rate of the production line increased (β = 1.41453 > 1),implying that the currently applied maintenance strategy is not adequate and must be upgraded in the near future, and (c) to avoid losses related to quality and productivity, the reliability must be improved initially on the pasteurizer, and secondly on the labeler machine.
