ABSTRACT
The study shows the reassessment of land snail species composition in a threatened limestone cave in Odukpani community, Cross River Calabar, Nigeria. The aims of the study are to create the diversity and abundance of land snail in the study area and to established the inventory of terrestrial snails in the study area
Sampling was carried out in a limestone cave and surrounding forest near Odukpani on September 2017, using a combination of direct search (per hour) and litter-sieving techniques. 12 plots were selected within the cave. At each plot, an average of 10 litres of litter and top soil sample were collected from ten randomly selected sites (1m×1m). Litter samples and top soil were collected into polythene bags for transportation to the laboratory. Upon arrival in the laboratory the samples were dried and searched for land mollusc. All snails, slugs and shell fragments encountered as well as those collected alive in the field were preserved in 70% ethanol.
