SUMMARY

This project work has examined the concepts and application of Queqing theory.

Chapter one presents the introduction to system involving Queues, statement of the problem, significances of the study, scope of the study aims and objectives, definition of some basic terms such as Queue, Queue discipline, Balking, reneging, Jocking, e.t.c.

Chapter two discusses the literature review on the general Queuing theory concepts. Here we discussed the origin of Queuing theory which started in the period 1909 to 1920 when A.K Erlang began to study problems associated with delay callers had in placing telephone calls during busy period of the day. We also look at other author’s view regarding Queuing theory.

Chapter three presents the structure of Queuing theory, which includes

  1.      The Single- Channel Queue.
  2.      The Multiple – Channel Queue.

Under the single channel Queue, M/M/1 model was considered and also

M/G/1.

Also under the multiple channels we consider the multiple channels Queue with Poisson arrival and Exponential service time and the M/G/K model.

The usefulness and application of Queuing theory to real life situation is successfully demonstrated in the practical study of the Queuing system in chapter four. Here a practical study of Queuing system was carried out precisely. Looking at the withdrawal of cash in the Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, with the objective of testing the validity of model in real life situation.
