SUMMARY
Queerphobia is alive in Nigerian society and has implications for queer people. This is the focus of this study which takes Emezi‘s The Death of Vivek Oji and Dibia‘s Walking with Shadows as proof. The first chapter shows the varied manifestations of queerphobia towards queer people, which include but are not limited to stigma, discrimination, rejection, and various kinds of violence. The second chapter analyses how these societal attitudes impact queer people's identities, relationships, interactions, and lives. A bold statement that the texts shine a light on is that multiple realities exist, and the existence of one should not invalidate the realities of others. As seen in previous chapters, this is portrayed with characters who do not conform to societal expectations of sexuality and gender identity. Characters who try to attain a point of self-acceptance with their identities are juxtaposed with characters who meet them with rejection and violence.
