ABSTRACT

With an emphasis on clarifying their function in expressing quantity and specificity within the linguistic framework, this study investigates the subtleties of quantifiers in the Edo language. By using a descriptive methodology, information was obtained from native Edo speakers via observations and interviews, which were then supported by linguistic resource analysis. Quantifiers were categorized according to their syntactic and semantic characteristics, and their contextual usage in several conversation context was then looked at. Results show that Edo has a wide variety of quantifiers, each of which expresses quantity, specificity, connections in a different way. The research delves into the relationship that quantifiers have wit nouns, adjectives and verbs, providing insight into the grammatical and pragmatic consequences of these relationships.
