QUALITY ASSURANCE METRICS AND STUDENTS’ATTITUDE TO STUDIES

ABSTRACT

        The purpose of this study was to find out the quality assurance metrics and students’ attitude to studies in the public Senior Secondary School in Edo Central Senatorial District, Edo State. The study was guided by four research questions and four hypotheses. The population of the study is 1360 from which a sample of 150 respondents was drawn. The survey research design was adopted for this study.

         The study used descriptive statistics such as mean, frequencies, bar chart and scatter graphs to answer the four research questions raised for the study. Also, inferential statistics in the form of F-test were used to test the four hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance.

         The findings revealed among others that students enjoyed learning, they looked forward to being in class for lessons, and also students felt that not everyone can be good in all subjects.  Moreover, majority of the students do revisions before examinations and they felt learner/learner and staff/learner relationships are appropriate and positive. The result further revealed that each of the input-based and outcome-based quality assurance metrics was found to be positively related with students’ attitude to studies and the relationships were statistically significant at 0.05 levels. It was also discovered that schools adopted some educational quality assurance metrics (input-based and outward-based) which affected students’ attitude to studies positively. The researcher therefore recommended that teachers should create more awareness among students about their ability to succeed in school.  Also school authorities and government should adopt more quality assurance metrics and ensure thorough supervisions of schools. Finally, it was recommended that government and schools authority should regularly update school development plans to improve the quality and standard of schools.
