PYCHOLOGICAL IMPLICATIONS OF MEDIA REPORTS OF IPOB TERRORISTS ACTIVITIES IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT

The study is focused on the psychological implications of media reports of IPOB terrorists activities in Nigeria. A study of UNIBEN students. The objectives of the study were to find out the extent of exposure of UNIBEN Students to media reports of IPOB terrorists activities in Nigeria.It aimed at finding out the attitude of UNIBEN students towards media reports of IPOB terrorists activities in Nigeria, analyzing the perception of UNIBEN students towards media reports of IPOB terrorists activities in Nigeria and, examining the impacts of media reports about IPOB terrorist activities on UNIBEN students.For its methodology, the survey research method was used to gather the data used for the study. Findings of the study revealed that Media reports of IPOB activities in Nigeria don’t influence the perception of UNIBEN students and the extent at which they've been exposed to the media reports of IPOB is high. The findings also indicated that the media promotes propaganda and that the attitude of UNIBEN students towards media report of IPOB is negative. Based on the findings, the researcher concluded that the media, whether owned by the government  or private individuals should focus on reporting the truth without bias, fear or favour. The researcher therefore recommended among other things that the media should uphold the principles of truth and impartiality in reporting events to members of the society.
