The instrument used for the study was a structured questionnaire. The data collected were organized into frequency tables. The simple percentage and frequency count method was used to descriptively analyze the collected data.
The Cronbanch Alpha was used to determine the reliability of the instrument. The questionnaire was administered to a group of 20 respondents which were not part of the study. The result of their responses were correlated and a Cronbach coefficient of .753 was obtained. This shows that the instrument is reliable. The data collected were organized into basic statistics. The study's findings suggest that various factors are associated with suicidal thoughts and behaviors among undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education at the University of Benin. These factors include academic anxiety, personality disorders, mood disorders, trauma, neurodevelopmental disorders, neurocognitive disorders, and dissociation disorders. It appears that mental health issues and difficulty coping with stress are linked to a higher prevalence of suicidality among these students. Addressing these issues and providing appropriate support and resources for undergraduate students could be essential in reducing the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors in this population
In view of the findings the following recommendations are hereby offered;Provide easy-to-reach mental health services on campus, offering counseling and help for students dealing with anxiety, personality issues, mood problems, and trauma, Teach students and staff more about mental health to reduce stigma and increase awareness of available resources,Create a system to spot students in trouble early and give them support before their problems get worse.
